The Australian Vulnerability Triage Tool (AHVTT) |

Since July 2024, we have been using the Australian Homelessness Vulnerability Triage Tool (AHVTT) as our common triage tool - following the discontinuation of the Vulnerability Index-Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (VI-SPDAT). At this stage, we are not able to generate our live common triage tool dashboard, while AHVTT reporting capabilities are built into the new Advance to Zero Queensland Database hosted by CSnet. Your patience during this period of improvement is greatly appreciated as we aim to provide more effective, real-time data to help us ensure that homelessness in Brisbane is rare, brief, and once-off. In the meantime, you can see snapshots of the AHVTT data from July 2025 to June 2026 in the Brisbane Zero Collaborative Homelessness Snapshots:

The AHVTT is a voluntary screening tool used by practitioners to support collaborative decision-making both within their organisations and with external stakeholders.
Use of the AHVTT
- Engage and connect with people at risk and/or experiencing homelessness.
- Better understand the presenting needs of people (triage).
- Inform the case management, care and/or support plan for people at risk and/or experiencing homelessness. The AHVTT is an appropriate precursor to a more intensive and lengthier assessment.
- The AHVTT score indicates people's level of support needs, informing the practitioner's decisions, priorities, next steps, and options. It does NOT reflect deficit or failure of people experiencing homelessness.
Note:
- Informed consent is required: otherwise, the AHVTT cannot be commenced or completed.
- Pace of engagement is driven by the people being surveyed - it can be done across multiple engagements - 15 - 20 minutes on average.
